Jewish Campus Climate Initiative (JCCI)

Since 2020, SFSU has been part of a national cohort of universities participating in a campus climate initiative in partnership with Hillel International. Our Jewish Campus Climate Initiative (JCCI) is committed to ensuring that SFSU’s Jewish students, faculty and staff share fully in our institutional sense of belonging and to addressing antisemitism on campus.

Grounded in the University’s commitment to equity and community inclusion, JCCI brings together campus and community partners such as SF Hillel to strengthen Jewish student life, expand education about antisemitism and support a positive campus climate for all.

An advisory committee, comprised of faculty, staff, students, administrators and community members, guides and coordinates this work.

What we do

JCCI works in partnership with the Division of Equity and Community Inclusion (DECI) to strengthen campus climate and support Jewish student life. Key areas of work include:

  • Education and training: providing antisemitism education for campus leadership, faculty, student leaders and incoming students, integrated into broader diversity, equity and inclusion efforts 
  • Student support: supporting Jewish student life through dedicated staff, interfaith programming and ongoing collaboration with SF Hillel 
  • Academic engagement: partnering with the Jewish Studies Department and developing resources to support inclusive teaching and classroom dialogue 
  • Response and reporting: promoting the reporting of bias-related incidents and supporting coordinated campus response efforts

JCCI Highlights

  • Established in partnership with SF Hillel and Hillel International

  • Recognized through participation and presentations at national and regional conferences 
  • Consulted by peer institutions on antisemitism education and response strategies 
  • Supported by active engagement from University leadership, faculty and students 
  • Strengthened through ongoing partnership with SF Hillel
